Experience Individual Therapy at Wild North

A lot of men who come to therapy for the first time are unsure of what to expect. They picture scenes from The Sopranos, or imagine a therapist telling them they’re secretly in love with their mother and want to kill their father (Freud’s famous Oedipus complex). They think about what their grandfather, their father, or their friends would think of them meeting someone to talk about their feelings. Men are supposed to be in control of themselves at all times. We’re supposed to know everything already. And the idea of seeing a therapist means you are unwell, weak, broken, maybe even insane. But, these notions are far from the truth.

Over the years, many of my clients have said things like, “This isn’t how I expected therapy to be.” They’re often surprised that therapy can actually feel engaging, honest, and even funny at times.

At Wild North Men’s Therapy, our work is about creating a space where you can be real – where curiosity replaces judgment and where small insights can lead to meaningful shifts.

We take an integrative approach that draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Our sessions blend open conversation with body-based awareness, helping you notice what’s happening beneath the surface and how it connects to your daily life. You’ll learn practical tools for grounding, communication, and reflection while exploring what it means to live with more connection and authenticity.

Therapy at Wild North is about being human, and learning that healing is your own journey. Your path to light and self-discovery is not written in the pages of a psychology book.

Are You Looking for a Space to Slow Down and Get Honest?

Individual therapy is a chance to take a breath and look at what’s really going on beneath the surface. It’s a space where you don’t have to hold it all together or figure everything out on your own.

What Individual Therapy Is

Therapy is a collaborative process focused on self-understanding and growth. It’s not about being broken or needing to be fixed. It’s about exploring the stories, emotions, and patterns that shape how you move through the world. Together, we create space to talk about the things you’ve been carrying and to notice what’s happening in your body and mind.

Why It Matters for Men

Most men grow up without an outlet to be completely honest. We’re taught to conceal truth for the sake of others and for the sake of our reputation.

We learn to stay composed, figure things out on our own, and keep emotions contained. There’s an unspoken rule that talking about fear, sadness, or uncertainty means you’re weak; that asking for help somehow means you’ve failed.

So, we get good at hiding what’s really going on. We joke instead of opening up. We distract ourselves with work, relationships, or responsibilities. We push through the stress, hoping it’ll sort itself out. But over time, that constant holding in takes a toll. It can leave you feeling restless, disconnected, or like no one really knows what’s happening underneath.

Therapy offers something rare – a space where you can drop the act and speak freely, without worrying about judgment or having to explain yourself. It’s a place to get curious about the parts of you that are tired of performing or pretending.
